Last Year Champions Milwaukee Brewers
New Orleans, LA.
(McC.COM) - Welcome to season 37 in the McCabe world of baseball, the
fastest rollover world in the west. Last year we saw the Milwaukee Brewers
(94-68) win the Robert E. McCabe World Series Trophy in a 7-game series over the
Philadelphia Phillies (109-53). Our Post-Season award winners were Harry Astacio (5 HR, 14 RBI, 327 BA, 1.176 OPS)
Post-Season MVP, and Outstanding Pitcher Award went to Kid Richard (6 starts, 3-3, 1.27 Whip, 1.60
ERA). Both players left Milwaukee via free-agency during the off season after leading
the Brewers to their first World Series Championship in team history, Astacio
signed with the Kansas City Royals for $6.8 million, and Richard signed with
the Colorado Rockies for a whopping $18.5 M, which doubled his season 36
salary.
No Repeat for the
Brewers
This year we don’t see the Brewers repeating as WS
champions, especially after losing our post-season award winners to
free-agency. The experts here at McCabe Magazine have selected several teams
with a shot at winning the whole enchilada. That carefully chosen list included
the Brewers, Kansas City Royals, Seattle Mariners, and the Philadelphia
Phillies, however our choice
to win the season 37 World Championship is the Chicago Cubs. Led by
season 36 MVP Jackie Waterson (RF) the Cubs should win their
division for the third time in as many years and top the 100 win total for the
first time since season 10. Oddly, that season they won 101 games and finish
second in the division to the Cleveland Indians (107 games). The Indians won the National
League Pennant but then, loss to the Anaheim Angels (92-70) in the World Series,
4 games to 1. The Cubs are
loaded with talent from top to bottom. Besides the
reigning MVP they bolster a lineup that includes
Alex Javier (2B) 45 HR, 107 RBI, 23 SB, Jacque Harang (3B) 302
BA, Edwar Piedra (P) 16-14, and Jacob Munoz (P) 14-11. The pitcher the folks in
Chicago are most excited about is new comer Will Delahanty (P), a
former 7th round draft pick of the Cincinnati Reds in season 30 is listed
as a rookie however he appeared in 54 games last year, all in relief, posting a 8-4 record, 1.29
Whip, and a stunning 2.90 ERA. Delahanty has three pitches a 4-seam fastball, curveball, and palmball that are equally dangerous to righties and lefties, he had 80 strikeout in 80 innings of work in S36. Junior Mercado (P) has been the Cubs full time closer since S31, nevertheless after blowing 9 saves a career high, and posting a 4.25 ERA last year, some say his replacement is already in the club house, Mr Delahanty.
The Playoff Teams
We don’t see anybody in the NL North division giving the Northsiders
any resistance. However, the playoffs, as we all know is a crapshoot, but we
think their toughest competition is going to come from the great northwest, the
Seattle Mariners. Our money is on the Cubs to knock off the Mariners in the
league championship series to win the NL Pennant and go on to win the World
Series in a seven game series over the Kansas City Royals. The American League
championship series will be a rematch from last season; Milwaukee and Kansas
City, with the Royals coming out on top of the defending champs this season 4
games to 2. Your AL division winners will be the Brewers, Boston Red Sox, St.
Louis Cardinals, and the Anaheim Angels. The division winners in the NL will be
the Cubs, Phillies, Richmond Virginians, and the Mariners. The season 37
wildcard teams, Chicago White Sox, Royals, Pittsburgh Pirates, and the Florida
Marlins.
