The San Diego Padres A Baseball Dynasty

San Diego, CA (McM.com) – Are the San Diego Padres a dynasty? That’s the question I asked myself after The Padres season 27 postseason performance. Definition of a sports dynasty; a sport dynasty is a team or individual that dominates their sport or league for an extended length of time, winning championships for a bulk period of time.

The Padres destroyed the postseason competition, going 12–2, which included a sweep of the Washington DC Nationals in the McCabe World Series. That championship was their sixth (6), which is the most in league history. No other major league team has more than 3 World Series Championships, the Florida Marlins and the Boston Red Sox both have 3 Championships and the Anaheim Angels and the Detroit Tigers both have each. The architect and owner of this organization is jgarron. He has been there since day one, as the expansion owner, his clubs resume is absolutely astounding. As we stated earlier the Padres have 6 World Series Championships, 10 National League Pennants, 20 divisional titles, 22 seasons of 90+ wins, 8 seasons of 100+ wins, and they have never finished lower than 2nd  in the Western Division. In 27 Major League seasons the San Diego Padres have a won/loss record of 2622–1752, an average of 97 wins per season. This is an organization that has set the pace for the rest of the league.

In the Beginning, Expansion

In season 1 the San Diego Padres (82-80) did not have a single player make the major league All-Star Team. They did not have a solitary award winning player during that season. However, one could argue that T.J. Starr (1B) 38 home runs, 101 RBIs, 325 batting average, 412 OBP,  and a OPS of 1.004 should have found a spot on the inaugural squad. In season 2 that injustice will be rectify when the Padres place three players on the All-Star team including TJ Star. The other two were Norm Howard (RF) and the clubs first 20 game winner Norberto Crespo (21-9). Also that year Star received a silver slugger award and Crespo walked away with the clubs first gold glove. 

Other award winners

In season 8 Ronnie Hoover (SP) won the National League Rookie of the Year award. Season 19 saw the Padres collect two major awards when Moose Martin won the Rookie of the Year award and Asdrubal Pelaez  won the Padres first Cy Young with a 23-5, and a 2.65 ERA. Martin followed up his Rookie of the Year award with a Cy Young of his own in season 21. The Padres will collect another Cy Young award in season 23 when Chris Breen won the hardware.  Pelaez would win his second and third Cy Young Awards in seasons 24 and 26. Che-Hsuan Suzuki would win the clubs third rookie of the year award in season 26.

The Hall of Famer

The Padres have one plaque r in the sacred hall, Closer Skeeter Brown was elected to the Hall of Fame in season 16 after a 18 year major league career in which he retired has the all-time save leader (525) in Major League Baseball. Skeeter Brown won the Fireman of the Year award in season 13 and he also appeared in seven all-star games. He won a World Series with the Padres In season 13 and has an all-time postseason record of 38 games pitched, 29 saves, 226 OVA, 0.99 Whip, and a 2.41 ERA. 

Are Padres a dynasty? According to an all-time baseball historian, your truly,.. that will be a big-old YES!

Note: We made several attempts to contact Padres management and ownership regarding this article and was denied access. We were told jgarron was meeting with his attorneys concerning an episode in which he punched the Padres equipment manager in a Toronto restaurant. The incident occurred when an argument escalated over the last dinner roll. According to several bystanders the owner threw a left-hand hook, an overhand right, then an upper cut, landing directly on the 5’1” managers jaw which resulted in the little guy falling face first onto the restaurants floor and the owner breaking his right hand.

Listed below you will find the Robert E. McCabe Magazine Owner/Organization of the Year Award Winner and our Owner Power Rankings. This year we at McCabe Magazine will award organizations bonus points for winning the World Series and Pennant at each level. In addition, the owner will receive points for total wins at every level, winning the Division title, and for making the playoffs as a Wildcard. The Owner with the most points will receive the McCabe Magazine Owner of the Year Award. We here at McCabe Magazine feel that a good owner should maintain a solid farm system and a winning major league club. His big league club should be in position to win the division and one or more of the lower level squads should be in position to capture a minor league World Series title. The Owner of the Year should field competitive teams at every level.

Bonus Points for Total Wins and Playoff Teams

Each team will receive one point for each win and BONUS POINTS as followed: ML Playoff Team 100 points, Wildcard 75, AAA Division Winner 50 points, AAA Wildcard 30, AA Division Winner 40, AA Wildcard 20, High A Division Winner 30, High A Wildcard 15, Low A Division Winner 20, Low A Wildcard 10. Rookie Division Winner 10, and Rookie Wildcard 5.

Spokane, Washington (McC.com) – As season 28 gets underway we here at McCabe Magazine, along with Baseball Writers Association of America, and the 32 beat writers in each major league city have put together the McCabe Magazine’s season 28 preview issue and postseason awards predictions.

Our award-winning panel spent the entire off season evaluating rosters, all the front office moves in terms of trades and free-agent signings. We visited all 32 spring training facilities and attended more than 300 spring training games. We have compiled more than 5000 pages of data and materials to evaluate the organizations, which is why we have 97% accuracy when selecting playoff teams each year. 

Once we compiled all the information and crunch the numbers, we came up with 5 teams  we feel have an excellent shot of bringing home the Robert E McCabe Season 28  World Series Crown. Those five teams are the Toronto Blue Jays, the Houston Astro’s, Anaheim Angels, Pittsburg Pirates, and the San Diego Padres. Before we reveal our season 28 World Series champion and award winners, I will like to apologize to my readers for my arrest this past Monday for my involvement with the tampering of Odell Beckham’s Gatorade prior to the
game against the Carolina Panthers this past Sunday.  I was merely trying to give the wide receiver a competitive edge by replacing his Gatorade with a can of “whoop ass.” As you all know the charges were later dropped after I was relieved of my part-time duties as locker room attendant at Giants Stadium.

THE WORLD SERIES WINNER IS?

Now for the long awaited season 28 predictions. Our pick for this year’s World Series champion is The San Diego Padres. The Padres, the most dominating team in league history will repeat as World Series champions by defeating the Anaheim Angels to capture their 3^rd Championship in 4 years and 7^th overall. The Angels will knock off the Toronto Blue Jays to win the American League Pennant, and the Padres will squeak by the Pittsburgh Pirates to take the National League Banner. The American League division winners will be the Blue Jays, Washington Nationals, Houston Astros and the Angels. In the National League the division winners will be the Padres, Richmond Virginians, Pirates and the Cleveland Indians. The Wildcards will be the Minnesota Twins, Los Angeles Dodgers, Florida Marlins, and the Chicago Cubs.

 Most Valuable Player

Our season 28 most valuable player award winner will be the Washington Nationals Bartolo Hernandez (CF). This season 27 Rookie of the Year, Silver Slugger, and All-Star is a once in a generational type player one like we’ve never seen before. We would also like point out that McCabe Magazine noted in our season 25 top 50 prospects issue Hernandez was listed as the number one prospect in major-league baseball.  Last year he had 47 Home Runs, 126 RBIs, 330 BA, and a whopping 1.052 OPS. The only issues we see that might derail this runaway train is his four trips to the DL during his pro career. Most of the injuries or muscle related due to strains or stiffness which are not major injuries, besides  if he continues to put up these kinds of numbers what will be so wrong with a 15 day rest here and there doing a long season.                                  

Cy Young Award Winner

Santos Rodriguez Cleveland Indians Age: 29 B/T: R/R Born: Haverhill, MA Position(s): P (SP5) View Hardball Dynasty Profile

Our selection for the McCabe Magazine Cy Young Award is Santos Rodriguez of the Cleveland Indians. Rodriguez won the National League Cy Young Award in season 27 with a 21-3 won-loss record and an amazing 1.51 ERA. We look for this big right-hander from Haverhill, Massachusetts to win at least 26 games this year and help propel the Cleveland Indians to the National League North division crown.

 Rookie of the Year Award Winner

Juan Benitez Houston Astros Age: 21 B/T: R/R Born: Victoria, MX Position(s): SS/2B View Hardball Dynasty Profile

The McCabe Magazine Rookie of the Year award winner will be Juan Benitez of the Houston Astros. This rookie of the year candidate was also listed in our season 25 top 50s prospect issue as the number 3 prospect in all of baseball. Benitez has a minor league career batting average of 337 and should have no problem duplicating those numbers in the big leagues.

Fireman of the Year

Pedro Manuel San Diego Padres Age: 31 B/T: R/R Born: Los Teques, VE Position(s): P (ClA) View Hardball Dynasty Profile

What can we say about this 31 year-old flame thrower thrower that has 386 saves and a career 2.44 ERA? Manuel converted 57 of 58 save opportunities in season 27 with an eye-popping 0.78 ERA and a 0.77 WHIP. He has won the National League Fireman of the Year award 5 consecutive years and our money says it be 6 after season 28. There are folks in our building suggesting our award be renamed the McCabe Magazine Pedro Manuel award. We will table that discussion until post-retirement.

PRESEASON POWER RANKINGS CAREER LEADERS UPDATED

WELCOME TO SEASON 28 and to THE ROBERT E. McCABE MAGAZINE

Cincinnati, Oh (McC.com) – Welcome to season 28 of the Robert E McCabe baseball league. We here at McCabe magazine look forward to another exciting and action-packed season. However, before we unveil our season 28 Preseason Power Rankings, we would like to express our disappointment with the Hall of Fame voters who failed to recognize the career achievements of Steven Starr and Felipe Lopez. 

During Steven Starr’s 15 year major league career he was a League MVP, 2 World Series Rings, 9 time all-star, 5 time Silver slugger award winner, and a three-time Gold Glove award winner. The case for Lopez is much of the same. He is a two-time Cy Young Award winner, 8 time all-star, and he is number five on the career all-time strikeout list  with 3296 Ks. 

Both players finished with 16 votes, one vote short of being elected to the Hall of Fame. We only hope the members of the Hall of Fame voting community see the error of their ways, and get the vote out and get these players elected in season 29.

·       *Louis James moves into the 4^th position on the all-time career batting average list with a 330 BA, bumping John Burke down to number 5^th.            

·       *There was no change in the top 5 career Homerun list.

·      * Homer Henry moved into the top five at number 4 in career hits with 2770. Henry also moved into the top five in RBIs at 4 with 1796. 

·       *There was no change in the career wins list however Vince Garcia went 24-7 in season 27 closing the gap between him (347) and the number one man on the career wins list Luther Abercrombie (355 wins). We look for Garcia to set the wins total record sometime before the All Star break.

·       *There was no change in the top five career Earn Run Average.  

·       *We have a new leader in the all time save category. Glenn Watkins recorded 43 saves in season 27 for the Los Angeles Dodgers and took over sole possession of the top spot on the all-time saves list.      

·       *In the all time career strikeout leaders top five Vince Garcia moved up two spots to the number three position with 3374 strikeouts. He is 271 strikeouts behind the number 2 pitcher on the list Onan Park (3645) and a whopping 1075 strikeouts behind  the strikeout King Luther Abercrombie (4449).
