1-Season 20 San Diego padres 116–46, and an 11–6 postseason
record. This World Series champion has the best regular season record in league
history with 116 wins. They also received 8 All-Star selections, the most of
any club in season 20. The second team on the all-time wins list is the Florida
Marlins of season 9. That Marlin team lost to the Chicago Cubs in the National
League Championship Series 4 games to 3 games.
What makes the season 20 San Diego Padres McCabe Magazines
Greatest Team in baseball history? It starts with pitching, it always have, and
always will when deliberating the merits of the Padres organization. The Padres
posted three 20 game winner that season with Wandy Duran Won 26-7, Whip 1.04, ERA 2.99, Asdrubal Pelaez Won 23-2, Whip 1.09, ERA 2.52, Moose Martin won 20-11, K 248, Whip 1.08, ERA
2.73, and closer Pedro Manuel Saves 39, Whip 1.00, ERA 1.77.
This pitching staff led the league in ERA that season with a 3.09 which is 4th
on the all-time season ERA list. Pelaez tied with Arizona Diamondback’s Vince Garcia Won 20-6, Whip 0.99, ERA 2.53 for
the Cy Young Award in season 20. Pitching is 90% of the game, but you can’t win
a World Series on pitching alone, the other 10% is the offense. And the Padres
offenses was about speed and timely hitting led by Murray Higgins 32 HR, 115 RBI, 296 BA 21 SB, Nap Brantley 28 HR, 100 RBI, 259 BA, and Jose Fernandez 19 HR, 102 RBI, 265 BA 34 SB. However,
as we stated earlier, the secret to the sauce is the speed, speed and more
speed. The Padres led the league with 400 stolen bases, with Omar Paniagua leading the club with 86, he was
only caught and amazing 12 times.
We can go on all day with the incredible accomplishments of
the season 20 San Diego Padres, but we’ll stop and let you examine the numbers.
We here at McCabe Magazine have little doubt that you will disagree with our
choice of the season 20 San Diego Padres as GREATESS TEAM in LEAGUE
HISTORY.

3- Season 28 Toronto Blue Jays 107-55 won the World Series
by knocking off the Florida Marlins 4 games to 1. The 28 Blue Jays hold the
following all-time regular season records; Run Scored 1148, Home Runs 378, RBI
1123, Slugging .552 and OPS 920. Without a doubt, this is the most explosive
club in league history, averaging a mind-blowing 7 Runs per game in season
28. Season 28 MVP Alexei DaSilva led this ERA wrecking lineup
with 61 Home Runs, 157 RBI, 322 BA. Helping DaSilva smash those regular season
team offensive records was Desi Cruz 54 HR, 156 RBI, 334 BA, Wily Correa 48 HR, 139 RBI, 306 BA, Julio Castro 40 HR, 121 RBI, 304 BA, Gary Condrey 39 HR, 105 RBI, 261 BA, Justin Miller 35 HR, 80 RBI, 301 BA, and Alan Drese 29 HR, 87 RBI, 289 BA. Two very good
pitchers on the staff were Branch Boyle 23-8, 3.95 ERA and Paul Krueger 19-4, 3.79 ERA however, with the
run production it’s easy to see how the won/lost records were affected, both
had ERAs near 4. The best pitcher on the staff was closer Rico Montanez 36 Saves, 1.17 Whip, and an
eye-popping 1.50 ERA.

6- Season 9 New York Yankees 106–56, 11–5 in the playoffs, beat
the Chicago Cubs (98-64) to win the season 9 World Series 4-1. One interesting
thing about the season 9 playoffs is the Cubs beat the Florida Marlins (115-47)
that set the all-time regular season win total that season which was later
broken in season 20 by the San Diego Padres. One of the biggest upsets we’ve
seen here at McCabe Magazine. This team product two future Hall of Famers in Francisco Gandarilla (P) and Rick Ward (1B).

10- Season 9 Florida Marlins 115 – 62, 6-6 in the playoffs
is the only squad failed to win the World Series. They placed 8 players on the
All-Star Team and were eliminated in the National League Championship Series by
the Chicago Cubs (98-64). The Cubs went on to lose to our number 6 Greatest
Team, the New York Yankees. As we stated earlier the Marlins set the record for
most wins in a season with 115 which was later broken by our 1 team on our
list, the 20 Padres.
The Marlins led the league with a 2.89 ERA, which is 2nd
on the regular season all-time ERA list next only to the 20 Padres 2.89. They
rank 7th on the regular season OVA all-time list, 8th on the
OBP, and tied for 7th on the all-time Whip list with a 1.15.
