This Week In Baseball (TWIB Notes)
The Diamondback are very disappointed in
start to the season and have let all major league clubs know anyone 28 or older
is available.
Astros owner bballer2117 told a group of
media folks gather at the “Big Baller 2117 Steakhouse” in suburban Houston
“it's time for me to rebuild. Everyone on my ML team is available.”

In a draft day surprise troubled shortstop Bret Terry a projected top five (5) selection
by many scouts fell to the Chicago White Sox at pick 26 in the first round. The
21 year-old junior out of Providence College in Rhode Island has a long list of problems with Providence law enforcement, and the law in his home town of Red Lake
Minnesota, population 1,731. Three years ago in St. Paul, Minnesota he was
charged with theft after walking out of Kowalski’s Market with 2 lbs. of crab
legs. This year, while on a trip with the team to Scottsdale, Arizona he was
accused of fondling an Uber driver. In between those accusations we found a
number of charges ranging from disorderly conduct in the student lunchroom at
Providence to inappropriate touching of a coed in his dorm room. The White Sox
had no comment regarding the selection of Terry.
Braves GM franknterry was ecstatic Gadsden
State Community College freshman Chip Leach was there at 8 when it was the
Braves time to make their selection. “My scouts had projected Leach as the best
pitcher and I guess either we were lucky to get him at #8 or my scouts aren't
worth the money I pay them.” Many clubs wasn’t so lucky, Mets gurubaseball spoke
with McCabe Magazine “this draft had quite a few good pitchers and we had so
many picks and got no legit major league quality pitchers. It’s unreal how many
pitchers went in the 1st round.” The Mets picked Mark York (LF) with the 24 pick in the 1st
round.
A football game broke out in Kansas City
between the Royals and Yankees (click link New York Yankees vs. Kansas
City Royals), a game in which the Kansas City won 23-13. There were 46 hits in
the contest, Yankees collected 21 and the Royals 25, with Mike Atkins (3B) being named player of the game for
going 6-4, 3 runs scored, a double, 2 home runs, and driving in 8 runs.
Reed Hutton (P) 1-1, 1.31 Whip, 6.33 ERA of
the Mariners who has
complained openly throughout his career about over usage is at it again in Seattle. An unnamed
source in the Mariners organization made the following comments to the Seattle
Times “He (Hutton) is a mystery to us, he has all the stuff to pitch at this
level. The coaching staff and the folks around baseball feels this guy should
be pretty close to elite.” An ex-girlfriend of Hutton told the website Deadspin
“Washington is the last state he needs to be in." When asked why she replied
“bro,.. Re Re (Reed) loves the wicky wacky, and it’s legal in Seattle.” Translation; Reed loves the weed, which is legal in the state of Washington.

The Giants (31-38) was shopping four-time
All Star and former Fireman of the Year Lorenzo Vega (P) when the
New York Mets (40-29) submitted an offer of
Frank Hernandez (P), minor leaguers R.A. Wells (LF), and Nicholas Nielsen (CF) and the deal was completed.
This should help the Mets, currently 2 games back in the division behind the
first place Philadelphia Phillies (42-27) stay close. Since joining the Mets,
Vega has appeared in 4 games, 1 save, a 1.20 Whip, and a 1.35 ERA.
League sources have confirmed a deal is in
the works in which the Rochester Broncos will be sold to a group of investors
headed-up by League commissar Pat McCabe. Once the transaction is completed the
controlling interest will be transferred to the new owners. Speculations and
rumors regarding the sale have been swirling about for several weeks. A press
release was issued to the media stating nothing has been finalized and no decision
has been made regarding the sale of the club.
The Mariners (47-23) are tied with the
Kansas City Royals for the best record in the big leagues are looking to strengthen
their bullpen and ready to part ways with relievers, Reed Hutton and Xander Bennett (21 games, 2-1, 1.56 Whip, 5.40
ERA). Both pitchers have been major disappointments this season, and the
folks in the front office know if they’re going to make a serious run at
another Robert E. McCabe trophy the bullpen has to be upgraded.

The Pirates are shopping former first round
picks Brian Simms, and
Bruce Bauer. Simms was
the number 1 overall pick in season 28 by Baltimore and has never lived up to
the expectations of being the number 1 overall selection. He has never been
selected to an All-Star team with a career 287 BA. Bauer was selected with the 22nd
pick in season 29 by Pittsburgh and is a solid 4th or 5th
starter with a career won/lost record of 69-57 in 195 starts and has never been
placed on the disable list.
Mets Rudy Levis (P) is off to an
amazing start this season with a 9-5 record in 17 starts, 1.00 Whip, 2.40 ERA,
and an eye-popping 7 complete games
The Cubs have traded power hitter Carlos Solis (LF) and minor league designated
hitter Chad Venters to the Atlanta Braves for AAA
prospect Vin Neris (1B).
White Sox have added Gorkys Quinones (LF) to
the trading block. He has posted a 326 batting average in 135 plate
appearances.
