THE ROAD TO THE WORLD SERIES GOES THRU SEATTLE
AND ENDS IN THE AL SOUTH
St. Louis, MO (McC.com) – Welcome to the Robert
E. McCabe world of professional baseball and season 38. In this preview issue
McCabe Magazine will share with you our choices for the World Series Champions,
MVP, Cy Young and Rookie of the Year. We’ll take a close look at all the
organizations and moves made during the off season.
The Seattle Mariners (111-51) won the World Series last year
beating the St. Louis Cardinals (90-72) 4 games to 2. Seattle’s
Jose Valdes (1B)
Frankie Brooks (P) was named our
postseason Co-MVPs. In 14 postseason games Valdes hit 4 HR, 12 RBI, 387 BA, 8-0
SB, and 1.118 OPS. Oddly Valdes left Seattle via free-agency, taking a pay cut
and signing with the San Francisco Giants. Diaz started 5 postseason games
going 3-1, in 29 innings, 19 strikeouts, 8 walks, 1.07 Whip, and a 1.86 ERA. We
named St Louis pitcher
Mark Joyce (11 games, 2-0, 0.84 Whip, 1.77
ERA) our National League Outstanding Postseason Player.
The World Series Winner
This season we feel the Mariners have the best roster from
top to bottom even with the loss of some key players from the championship
team; Valdes and pitcher
Benj Winn (100 games, wins 7-3, 135.1
innings, 1.15 Whip, 3.26 ERA) signed a free-agent contract with division rival
Colorado Rockies. However, the road to the Robert E. McCabe trophy goes through
Seattle and ends in the American League South. After months of digesting the
data and examining every major league roster and each organization’s minor
league system the Super Computer here at McCabe Magazine have made our season
38 predictions. Using all 32 teams we ran 1,000,000 simulations and got these
results; Kansas City Royals won our simulation 45%, Seattle 25%, Texas Rangers
10%, St. Louis 9%, Philadelphia Phillies 6%, and the Chicago Cubs 5%. The Super
Computer nicknamed the “Big Mac” makes no mistakes, the winner of the Season 38
World Series will be the Kansas City Royals over the Seattle Mariners 4-3. Last
year we predicted an AL pennant for the Royals, which didn’t happen, they
finished the season with the best record (101-61) in the AL and were knocked
off in the League Championship Series by divisional rival and 6th seed St.
Louis Cardinals, 4-1. This year that won’t happen according to Royals
Wilkin Lopez. The 5 time MVP told a group of
reports prior to a spring training game “a blind batter can hit the ball once”
HUH? Lopez went on to say “the division is ours, the pennant, and the World
Series, hook it” translation “Book it.”
The Playoff Teams
The American League championship series will be a rematch
from last season; St. Louis and Kansas City, with the Royals coming out on top
of the defending AL champs. The Mariners will beat the Phillies in the league
championship series to win the NL Pennant and go on to play the Kansas City the
World Series. Your AL division winners will be the Chicago White Sox, Boston
Red Sox, St. Louis Cardinals, and the Anaheim Angels. The division winners in
the NL will be the Cubs, Phillies, Richmond Virginians, and the Mariners. The
season 38 wildcard teams, Cardinals, Rangers, Pittsburgh Pirates, and the
Florida Marlins.
