The Midsummer Classic and Awards
Las Vegas, NV (McC) – Before we unveil our eagerly awaited list, let us point out the performance of Baltimore Orioles third Basemen
George Brantley our Player of the Game in the midsummer classic. Brantley of the losing
American League squad belted 2 home runs and collected 6 RBIs. Brantley (44 HR,
112 RBI, 350 BA) is not only our All-Star Player of the Game, he is also McCabe Magazines midsummer Most Valuable Player. Some of our beat writers felt the MVP
should have been giving to our runner-up, San Diego Padres left-hand starting pitcher
Wandy Duran (19-4, 1.04 Whip, 2.89 ERA.).
The Orioles (58-50) are in third place and 10 games in back
of Eastern division leading Boston Red Sox (68-40). The Padres (78-30) have the
best record in baseball, and Duran is a big part of that success. However, the
questions surrounding Duran and his sudden success has the investigated division
here at McCabe Magazine licking their chops. Duran’s season 19 won-lost record 4-13,
and ERA 6.05 has cause for concern. His season 18 and 17 ERA were not much
better at 5.25 and 5.21. PEDs have become an enormous part of the world we live
in, and we only pray they haven’t made their way into the league we all love.
The bottom-line is the rumors outnumbered the votes and they will only continue
until the league and the Players Association agree on a stronger testing
program.
