Adam Bradford Leads St. Louis to World
Championship
Note; click players name for detail information
After knocking off the defending back-to-back World
Series champion Washington Nationals in the American League Championship
series, the St. Louis Cardinals will go on to win season 35 World Series in
6 games over the Pittsburgh Pirates. The Cardinals and Nationals ALCS rematch
from season 34, a series in which the Nationals swept the Red Birds, we will
see St. Louis gets its revenge from that embarrassing lost. The Cardinals and
Pirates have dominated their respected divisions in recent years. St. Louis has
controlled the American League South the past four years, winning 3 divisional
titles and 412 games, an average of 103 during that 4 year span. In season 32
they added the best pitcher in baseball, Adam Bradford (R) who proceeded to win the
Cy Young award in seasons 33 and 34, with a 2 year combine record of 40-6.
Bradford and power hitter Louie Rosa (R) 59 HR 141 RBI, along with
pitchers Albert Oliva (R), and spot starter Kennie Kubitza (L) will lead the Cardinals
to their 3rd consecutive division crown and its 2nd World Series in
team history. The Pirates won the National League Pennant in season 33, losing
to Washington in the fall classic. Pittsburgh had the second best
record in the NL last year, and was upset in the division round by their
neighbors to the east, the Philadelphia Phillies.
Since season 26 the Pirates have won the division crown 6
times during that 9 year period, and finished 2nd three times. The experts
here at McCabe Magazine tell us, this year is their year. If you’re wondering
why, look no further than the three highest paid players on the team, Alejandro Gonzalez (R) (3B), David Cantu (R) (SS), and Damian Okajima (R) (2B). Gonzalez is a
nine time All-Star, and Okajima had the best regular season and postseason
among the three. In season 34 he hit 28 HR, 99 RBI, with a 313 BA.
During season 34 postseason Okajima was the only one of the three that showed
up, batting 350 with an OPS of 0.931. Last year Gonzalez and Cantu disappeared in the teams 10
postseason games with a stat line of 1 Home and 2 RBIs combined. Gonzalez batted 250 during the postseason well below his career 297, and Cantu
hit 167. We look for them to improve on those numbers and make a solid run this year in
the National League.
