SEASON 42 OWNER OF THE YEAR

ROBERT E. McCABE SEASON 42
OWNER OF THE YEAR AWARD

Montreal, QC (McC.com) - We here at McCabe Magazine thinks the Owner of the Year maintains a solid farm system and the Big league club should be in a position for a postseason run. The lower level squads should be in the hunt to capture a minor league World Series championship. The Owner of the Year Award winner should field competitive teams at every level.

Bartolo Hernandez (3B) and Al Garces (P)

I was sitting in my basement office in beautiful Batavia Township Ohio located about 25 miles east of downtown Cincinnati when I got the ESPN news flash on my phone “two players elected into this year‘s Baseball Hall of Fame, Wilkin Lopez (27 votes) and Kid Richard (25).” My first reaction WTF!!! These players are both deserving of that honor however, the neighbors in my quiet neighborhood heard a loud, long, piercing, SCREAM, when I found out Bartolo Hernandez (3B) and Al Garces (P) was not among those joining the season 43 Hall of Fame class.

Bartolo was named to the ALL-DECADE TEAM not once but twice. He was an ALL- DECADE TEAM member in the 2nd and 3rd Decades. Bartolo was not only selected but he was also named the Player of the Decade (31-40) by The Sporting News, McCabe Magazine’s PAT007OHMSS award (Player of the Decade) and the Baseball Writers of American (BBWA). He has 3 World Series Rings, 2 Most Valuable Player Awards, 7 All-Star Appearances, 9 Silver Slugger Awards, and 1 Gold Glove. In his 19 year pro career he has collected a total of 39 awards.

Among the remaining Hall of Fame nominees that are still waiting for that call, Bartolo Hernandez ranks number 1 in Home Runs with 625, number 1 RBIs 1909 which is 4th on the All-Time career list, number 1 Slugging percentage .601, number 1 OPS .971, number 2 in Batting Average 314, number 3 Runs Scored 1616, and number 5 in Hits with 2641.

Al Garces was also named to the ALL- DECADE TEAM and won the JGARRON PITCHER of the DECADE AWARD. He collected 5 Cy Young awards during his playing career and has 9 All-Star appearances. He has a career 2.99 ERA and a 1.17 whip. Garces leads all remaining nominees with 270 wins and a .213 OAV.

These guys should’ve been first ballot Hall of Famers,..  NO QUESTION. According to the voting results both players received 0 votes, I REPEAT 0 VOTES, not one vote that is an outrage, a absolute abomination!! I must remind the votes that the commissioner’s investigation regarding the trashcan banging in the dugout during Mr. Hernandez World Series runs concluded with these noted findings “the garbage cans had no impact on the outcome of the game.” Also, in regards to Mr. Garces the fact that he was arrested for assaulting the commissioner with an empty trashcan after the press conference in which the commissioner announced his findings should have no impact on the Hall of Fame voters. Much like Bartolo, this should not be held against the 41 year-old pitcher from Los Llanos. He only did what every baseball fan in American wanted to do after the "NO IMPACT" findings by the commissioner. For those of you who are holding that incident and the investigation against the two, just stop it, come down from your high horse and correct a major Hall of Fame injustice.

Wait a minute, zero votes? Okay, I admit when I first started writing this piece I was under the impression that I had voted for Mr. Hernandez and Mr. Garces (oops, my bad), but that’s no excuse for the rest of you. My advice to the voting public is to stay off of the tequila, get rid of that wicky wacky weed you got hid in the garage, and cancel that massage trip to Jupiter Florida so we can get this horrific wrong fix next season by penciling in both players as season 44 Hall of Fame inductees.

Mike Harper (5 votes) is second behind Garces on the nominees list with 269 wins, 1 Cy Young, 7 All-Stars, and Yamid Zapata (2 votes) who leads all nominees with a 1.09 whip and a 2.85 ERA.
