SEASON 19 POWER RANKINGS

MAJOR LEAGUE POWER RANKINGS

List below you will find McCabe Magazine's first Power Ranking installment for season 19. The power rankings are an average of the following team statistics; Winning percentage, OPS, ERA and Fielding Percentage. As you can see the computers didn't give any love to the 12th ranked Kansas City Royals (24-10) and lots of TLC to number one ranked St. Louis Cardinals (21-13). The Royals have  the best record in baseball, a three (3) game lead over the Cardinals in the south division, and number one in the majors with a .912 team OPS. However, the nerds in the sabermetric lab point to the Royals team pitching 5.32 ERA (29 ranked) and .980 fielding (22 rank) as to why the they are not in the top 10. I was told by a reliable source that the computer they are using is an outdated refurbished BCS computer donated to McCabe by the NCAA. The nerds did not confirm nor deny this information.

You will also note that all four National League West teams made our rankings and the National League North was the only division not to have a team in the top 15.

McCabe Magazine Notebook

TWIB Notes

New York, NY (McC) With the season barely out of the starting gate, we here at the Robert E. McCabe Magazine would like to make a few observations. The first item we would like to point out is the pitching of Boston’s 34 year-old right-hander T.J Harden (4-1, 2.48 ERA). T.J. was an 18 game winner last year and is off to a hot start this year with a complete game No-Hitter on 6/27PM2 against the Washington D.C. Nationals.

Here are a few teams our staff here at McCabe missed on. They are the St Louis Cardinals, Cincinnati Reds, and the Colorado Rockies. All three were predicted to finish last in their division. However, as of this printing all three were in first place in this early stretch of the season.

Congratulations to Cedrick Hollins of Seattle Mariners on this 400th career save.  Hollins has played his entire career with the Mariners and has moved into 5th on the All-Time save list, 1 save ahead of Donnie Martin (399), and 9 behind 4th place career leader Brett Upshaw (409). The All-Time career save leader is Hall of Famer Skeeter Brown.

Notable injuries: Oakland pitcher Clay Porter placed on the 60-Day Disable list with elbow tendinitis. And, Atlanta’s Eugene Roberts (SP) had season ending elbow surgery. Roberts injured the elbow during his first appearance in spring training.

Player Highlights: In a game that resembled a beer league softball game Donaldo Johnson (3B) of the Detroit Tigers drove in 8 runs against the Cincinnati Reds. The Tigers won the game 24-12. In another football like scoring game, Toronto 20 Houston 10, Julio Castro  (RF) drove in 7 runs. And Benny Cruz (SS) of the Philadelphia Phillies hit for the cycle in a 6-5 win over the Richmond Virginians.
