McCABE MAGAZINE MIDSEASON NOTES

ALL-STAR WEEKEND Season 25 TWIB NOTES

Miami, FL (McC) - With the season at the halfway point McCabe Magazine would like to take our annual midseason look at the teams and players that are shaping season 25 into another exciting dash
for the cash.

·         Anaheim Angels ace Vince Garcia (LAA) leads the major leagues with 17 wins, 10 complete games, 4 shutouts, 177 innings, 129 strikeouts, 164 OVA, 225 OBP, 240 SLG, 0.81 WHIP, and 1.47 ERA. Can you say CY Young and first ballot Hall of Famer? However, that comment about the Hall of Fame might be in question considering the voting history of the existing HOF voters.

·         Adam Bradford (LAA) another Angel pitcher is second in the majors in the following categories 14 wins, 1.90 ERA, 125 strikeouts, 170 OVA, 255 SLG, and 4th in WHIP with a 0.98.

·         The Colorado Rockies has 3 sluggers 1,2, and 3 in Home Runs  Luis Mesa (COL) (41), Clarence Carver (COL) (33), and Hersh Mays (COL) (29). However, they do play in Denver fair or unfair comment? You can decided.

·         Seattle Mariners Low-A club leads all of baseball at the break with 76 wins which includes a 21 game win streak.

·         The New York Mets (37-54) who won the National League East 7 straight years (seasons 17-23) and 2 time pennant winner, and season 21 World Series Champion, are in danger of finishing last in the division for the second consecutive year.

·         Cleveland 2B Tatsuya Bang (CLE) leads the majors with 61 stolen Bases on 66 attempts.

·         Tony Lowry (CH2) of the Chicago White Sox is the best hitter verse right-hand pitching with a 452 BA and a 595 OBP. Minnesota Twins 1B Albert Cervelli (MIN) is the best against left-hand pitching (406 BA, 484 OBP).

Power Ranking Notes

Las Vegas, NV (McC) The Anaheim Angels are ranked first (1st) in three of the six noted categories and have been installed by 7 of the top 10 sports books in Las Vegas as the odds on favorite to win seasons 25 major league World Series. We met with noted odds maker Tommy “the Snitch” LaRosa of the Las Vegas Hilton and sports book about the season 25 Anaheim Angels, “ we here at LVH are very impressed with the Angels, they are ranked number one (1) in Wins, ERA, and WHIP, 4th in OPS, 5th in both Runs Scored and Fielding Percentage. This is a runaway train, if you hear them coming its too late, get the broom and dust pan out, here comes the sweep.” Tommy went on to say “we have them as a 10-1 favorite (bet 10 to win 1) to win the division, a 3-1 favorite to take the pennant, and a 2-1 World Series Champion.” Most wise guys we spoke to also like the Angels, however the smart money seems to be leaning toward the Toronto Blue Jays.

It’s been a long time since we've seen a team go wire to wire, nevertheless if anybody is going to accomplish that feat, it will be this year’s Angels squad. After contacting the major sport books here in Vegas, we have complied a list of each Casino Sport Books pennant winners and World Series Champions.

SEASON 25 PREDICTIONS

THE ANAHEIM ANGELS WINS IT ALL

The Angels knockoff the San Diego Padres in 5 games to win Season 25 World Series

Houston, TX (McC) Before we unveil our season 25 predictions we here at McCabe Magazine would like to express our disappointment and sadness with the Hall of Fame voters who didn't elect Bronson Whang, the all-time HIT KING to this year’s class of the HOF. This is a major injustice based on rumor, innuendo, and the misinformed. Whang has a total of 3,048 major league hits, the most in the history of the Robert E. McCabe league. He received 13 votes which is 40% of the eligible voters, this is a travesty of justice. As a sign of protest I will not be voting next year on the Hall of Fame candidates. I have given my vote to the website Deadspin.

The season forecast

Now that we have gotten that bit of frustration off our chest, let’s move on and reveal this season’s winners and losers. The team that is loaded from top to bottom, and should walk away with the World Series title in 5 games over the San Diego Padres is the Anaheim Angels.
The Angels finish season 24 with 111 wins, which was the best in the majors, they were also first in the American league in team ERA (3.28), and second in the majors behind the Padres (3.11). The strength of Anaheim is it’s pitching staff, featuring future Hall of Famer  Vince Garcia (R) (23-7, 2.40 ERA), Garcia should be voted into the HOF on the first ballot, however with this current HOF voting committee that statement might be in question. Other notables on the staff is Adam Bradford (R) (18-3, 2.56 ERA), Shea Cross (S) (19-3, 2.15 ERA) and the best setup man in baseball the past 10 years Juan Azocar (L) (86 games, 12-8, 2.37 ERA). The big bats in the lineup are Geraldo Belliard (25 HR, 112 RBI, 317 BA), and Zeke Harding (20 HR, 92 RBI, 308 BA).  We look for the Angels to win 105 games and cruise to its 3rd World Series Championship in team history.

The San Diego Padres have won the National League West division 7 of the last 8 years, averaging 104 wins during that 8 year span. They have won 7 NL Pennants and 4 World Series Championships. And just like the Angels the San Diego Padres pitching staff is the reason for the team’s success.  The Padres pitching staff have been the most dominant staff the past 6 years, leading major league baseball in team ERA every year since season 19.  Starting pitcher and 3 time CY Young award winner Asdrubal Pelaez (20-8, 2.69 ERA) is the ace of the staff, followed by Vin Tejera (16-8, 2.80), and last year’s Fireman of the Year Pedro Manuel (48 saves, 2.30 ERA). San Diego has high hopes for number 4 starter Troy Campbell (11 games, 2.04 ERA in season 24). Campbell, a 1st round draft pick in season 15 is replacing Chris Breen (18-11, 2.90 ERA) who left via Free-Agency. However, we feel the weakest of the Padres will be their offensive production, we just don’t see a stick in the lineup that will put fear in the opposing pitching staffs.

The Playoffs

McCabe Magazines official predictions, as mentioned earlier we like the Angels to beat the Padres in 5 games to win the World Series. The American League division winners will be the Toronto Blue Jays, New York Yankees, Texas Rangers, and the Angels. In the National League it will be the Cincinnati Reds, Philadelphia Phillies, Atlanta Braves, and San Diego Padres. The Wildcard teams Los Angeles Dodgers, Washington Nationals, Detroit Tigers, and the Colorado Rockies.
