RANKING SEASON 32 FREE AGENT SIGNINGS

THE OFF-SEASON MOVES FREE AGENT SIGNINGS Cincinnati, Ohio (McCM.COM) – As a new season begins we hear at McCabe Magazine decided to take a look at the free-agent market and signing’s of season 32. This crop of free agents have been rated by our panel of experts as an average to below average group of free agents. This year we didn’t have the Tony Cortes (HOF) or a Vince Garcia, that superstar, that blockbuster deal that could turn a team’s fortunes around with a bucket of cash. What we had this year was some average to very good players sign some deals that can improve some clubs and maybe put them over the hump. We saw some good deals made and we saw some very bad deals made. We saw some deals that should have been signed at gun point under the cover of darkness. However I won’t judge, I’ll just sit in my office and snicker at seasons end at the winners and losers, and say “I told you so” because nobody remembers what is written in March. Here are McCabe Magazine season 32 rankings of the top 30 free-agent signing’s.          TOP 30 FREE AGENT SIGNINGS Rank Franchise Player Pos Age McCabe Magazine Comments 1 Astros Magglio Palacios 1B 31 Resign by Houston smart move not to hit open market - S31 stats 32 HR 98 RBI 34 doubles with a 314 BA 2 Rays Storm Weaver RF 31 Can hit for average and power - Former ROY and 2 time all-star - career 308 BA 921 OPS 3 Broncos Fred Gonzales LF 29 Played in 162 games the last 3 seasons with HR and RBI totals of 37, 42, 32 HR and 95, 93, and 90 RBI 4 Red Sox Enerio Medrano 3B 33 Third-basemen that can play all fielding positions - not a threat at the plate 5 Astros Kid Priddy P 36 Another Houston resign moved into the closers role last season - can get righties and lefties out 6 Padres Julio Colome CF 31 Season 31 played 100 games for the Cubs and batted 267 traded to Braves played 51 games and batted 311 7 Reds Sam Sefcik LF 29 Reds resigned light hitting RF - 112 HR in 1091 games - played 63 games in RF, 29 games 3B, and 28 in LF   8 Angels Kazuya Gong CF 33 Gong spent his first 15 years in the Padres organization and at 33 can still be an elite Centerfielder 9 Marlins Vladimir Prieto P 31 Has the stuff to be a top tier closer - never got the chance in Atlanta - Season 31 had a 1.07 Whip 2.30 ERA 10 Rockies Ronald Kipnis P 37 Rockies resigned after posting a 0.98 Whip which tied  his career best - he also posted his second best ERA 2.44 11 Tigers Archie French P 30 Ironman reliever averaging 77.5 games pitched the past 6 seasons - career 3.40 ERA 12 Royals Horacio Corpas SS 30 Played in 162 games 4 of the past 5 seasons - doesn't have glove or range to play SS anymore - still can hit 20 HR  13 Reds Aaron Stovall CF 29 CF can play all outfield positions and anywhere on the infield except SS - 3rd team in 3 years 14 Dodgers Victor Brown LF 35 Resigned with Dodgers - season 31 played 158 games 25 HR 91 RBI 258 BA 19 SB 15 Red Sox Yorman Sanchez LF 33 Good signing average 60 HR and 223 RBIs the last 2 seasons 16 Padres Vic Tatis LF 33 S31 had his worst year ever 7 HR, 42 RBI, 213 BA in season 31 and some how got a 2-year deal worth $15.6  17 Padres Kirk Spence P 35 Spence is a 14 year major league SP with 442 starts and won/lost record of 148-162   18 Rangers Tomas Padilla RF 31 DL history - missed all of last season except for 5 games - history shows 4 stays in 4 years - career 291 BA 19 Yankees Ivan Latos P 34 Very durable with 228 major league games 228 starts - career 3.81 ERA 1.27 Whip 20 Reds Stuart Ruffin LF 32 Nice value at $2.8 M - hit 65 HR 236 RBI in seasons 29 and 30 with BA of 283 and 298  21 Dodgers Morgan Pose C 31 Excellent defensive catcher .993 fielding % 22 Rangers Sammy Flores LF 31 Texas resigns Sammy Flores - season 31 stats 19 HR 76 RBI 286 BA - season 30 stats 32 HR 92 RBI 291 BA 23 Padres Felix Washburn P 35 San Diego thinks Washburn has 2  years left in the tank - with their pitching record we won't question 24 Reds Bo Gibbons DH 34 This former DH will probably be inserted at first base - hit 292 with 27 HR and 93 RBI with Milwaukee last season 25 Rays Pablo Colon SS 30 This 30 year-old played his first full season in  the majors last season 24 HR, 90 RBI, 263 BA signed for $5.4 M 26 Giants Kordell Watson P 32 Greatest agent on plant earth - 5 year $68 million average salary $13.6 career wins 88-80, 1.41 Whip 4.73 ERA 27 Rays Tom Harris P 26 Total of 73 major league games with a career 1.44 Whip 4.85 ERA and only 45 starts 28 Virginians Jake Jenkins P 31 A knuckleballer with 4 other average to below average pitches 29 Reds Kennie Foster 2B 33 Played a toatl of 165 games in 2 seasons with San Diego - starter with the Dodgers in S30 before signing with SD 30 Athletics Pokey Bonham P 33 Spent the last 9 with Boston - was used as a starter however we feel his best fix is long reliever OTHER NOTABLE SIGNINGS Rank Franchise Player Pos Age McCabe Magazine Comments 31 Marlins Timothy Mays P 29 Best 2 pitches sinker and slider - can't get outs - lefties will be a major problem 32 Angels Rodney Widger 2B 34 Has an excellent glove .900 fielding at second-base and played in 161 games last season  33 Reds Lariel Cedeno P 33 Long-reliever/spot starter with very good control - nice value at $3.1 M - should eat innings  34 Royals Nash Corey RF 34 Aging veteran cashing in $5.5 M for hitting 244 and 240 in seasons 30 and 31 - hit 85 HR in 1879 games 35 Yankees Orlando Azocar P 35 Career 4.86 ERA got a $10 M signing bonus - very good to excellent control - still can get right-handers out 36 Yankees Branch Boyle P 37 19 year veteran signed 2 year deal worth $11 M - has an excellent sinker and okay forkball - ground ball pitcher 37 Rockies Wolf Collins P 40 40 year-old Collins and 22 year veteran resigns with the Rockies for $8.2 over 2 years
