McCABE LEAGUE PLAYOFFS

Pennant Contenders Baltimore Orioles vs. Anaheim Angels 
New York Mets vs. Chicago Cubs

The Playoff Teams

Chicago, ILL (McC.com) – The first round of the McCabe League playoffs started with the number 4 seed New York Mets (87-75) sweeping the 5th seed Florida Marlins (89-73), the 3rd seed Tampa Bay Rays (89-73) sweeping the Detroit Tigers (86-76) 6th seed. In the American League, the Baltimore Orioles (81-81) 4th seed eliminated the Los Angeles Dodgers (95-65) 5th seed, 3 games to 1, and the number 3 seed Kansas City Royals (98-64) knocked out the Chicago White Sox (95-67) 6th seed, 3 games to 2.  

American League Opening Round  

In the opening round we saw the Baltimore, who barely made the fall classic, pitching staff hold the Dodgers to 11 runs in 4 games for an average of 2.75 runs per game. The Dodgers scored 920 runs during the regular season for an average of 5.6 runs per game. Jose Colon, Dodgers (1B) and MVP candidate disappeared in the series, batting .200 with 1 HR and 2 RBIs. In the Kansas City and Chicago series, the White Sox young pitching staff was pulverized for 35 runs in 5 games (7 runs per game). Homer Henry (LF) was the star of the opening round series for the Royals with a .478 BA, 3 HR, 8 RBI.

National League Opening Round

They brought out the brooms in the NL opening round. Met Closer Benji Schulte (L) saved all 3 games verse the Marlins with a 0.00 ERA. Tampa swept Detroit 3-0 and outscored the Tigers 13-2 in the series. Michel Concepcion (SP) started game 3 and went 7 innings for the win. He gave up 1 run on 4 hits and was named player of the game.

Divisional Championship Series

The Orioles took care of the Toronto Blue Jays (100-62), McCabe Magazines choice to win the World Series in surprising fashion, 3 games to 1, OUCH! All four games were tightly contested with the margin of victory being 1.5 runs. Anaheim Angels (99-63) swept the Royals 3-0 with a pitching staff that combined for a .162 OVA, .239 OBP, .232 SLG, 0.86 Whip, and a 1.24 ERA. In the National League the Mets astonishing hurlers (post-season .223 OVA, 1.13 Whip, 2.43 ERA) out dueled the San Diego Padres (99-63) outstanding staff (post-season .239 OVA, 3.28 ERA) and shocked the editors here at McCabe Magazine, and the baseball world with a 3 games to 1 series win. The Chicago Cubs (94-68) led by Bill Henry (2B) who batted .429 in the series outscored the Rays 21-5 in the 3 game sweep.
