McCabe Magazine Hall of Fame Selections

Orlando, FL. (McC.com) With the Hall of Fame committee getting ready to select its season 35 nominees the folks here at McCabe Magazine thought it would be helpful to list our choices to be enshrined in this year’s Hall of Fame class. As always, we encourage all eligible votes to exercises their McCabe given right to vote for the players they think should be voted into the Major League Hall of Fame. Listed below you will find in the order in which they should be voted, ranked 1- 5 our recommendations for this year’s inductees. Failure to adhere to these guidelines will result in McCabe Magazine questioning your ability to follow simple instructions and require you and your staff to attend a three day seminar on how to properly clean and maintain the outdoor porta potpies at the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally held annually in Sturgis, South Dakota, you have been warned.   

These three (3) players should be a LOCK to join the season 35 Hall of Fame class

1. Quinton Bryne is ranked number 1 among all the players eligible to be selected for the Hall of Fame in Runs Scored with 2041, 1st in Triples with 109, number 2 in Hits 2856, number 3 in Doubles, third in stolen Bases with 693, 6th in Home Runs 543, 8th in OPS .912. He played in 105 Postseason games and batted .301. His career ended sadly when the Cincinnati Reds option him to the minors in season 33 where he played in 4 games for the Billings Mustangs their Rookie League Team and 9 games for their AA affiliate the Chattanooga Lookouts.   

Awards; He has 1 MVP, 2 World Series Rings, 1 All-Star MVP, selected to 11 All-Stars, 9 time Silver Slugger award winner.

2. Dean Ruffin is our second choice for enshrinement as a member of this year's class. He has the All-Time Major League record in Doubles with 574, he's second on the All-Time career Stolen Bases list behind  Omar Paniagua (909) with a career total of 832 swipes. Among all players eligible to be voted on he is second in Triples (102), second in Runs Scored (1807), and ranked third with 2607 Hits. Dean played in 112 post-season games and batted .291 with 33 Stolen Bases and only 1 caught stealing.

Awards; 2 World Series Rings, 6 time All-Star, 4 Silver Slugger Awards.

3. Glen Watkins has 620 Saves in his career placing him third on the All-Time Saves list behind first Ballot HOF Pedro Manuel (674) who is still active, and  Ronald Kipnis (647). You might ask why is Watkins our choice and not Kipnis? Well Kipnis never won the Fireman of the Year Award and he has 8 All-Stars compared to Watkins 5 Fireman of the Year Awards and 12 All-Star selections. In 12 post-season appearances Watkins recorded 10 Saves in 11 SVO, with a 1.18 WHIP and a 1.18 ERA. 

Awards; 5 Fireman of the Year Awards and 12 All-Star selections.

These next two (2) players are not locks to get in but they are worthy of consideration and should get in if McCabe Magazine were in charge of the selections.

4. Jeremy Creek has 576 Home Runs which is third among all eligible nominees,  he is second with 1629 RBI,  4th in Batting with a 312 Batting Average, and the best OPS .992. The draw back with Creek is he played 6 seasons in Colorado  where he hit 50 or more Home Runs in 4 of the 6 seasons. He only hit 50 or more only 1 time in the 7 seasons after leaving the Rockies. And its hard to over look his dismal post-season performance; 32 games, 1 double, 7 HR, 16 RBI, .181 Batting Average, .262 OBP, and a .616 OPS.

Awards;  2 MVP Awards, 5 All-Stars, 1 Home Run Derby Champ, and 6 Silver Slugger Awards

5. Matt Mauer is a much over looked pitcher. His career winning percentage of .724 is second only to Adam Bradford (.744). Mauer pitched in 1079 games with a 147-56 won/lost record, he has an amazing career WHIP (1.18) and ERA (2.92) which is tops among all nominees. What really stands out for us here at McCabe Magazine is his post-season stat line; 80 games, 13-2 record, 147.2 innings, 1.17 WHIP, and a 2.56 ERA. When the Blue Jays won the World Series in season 28 he appeared in 9 games, 16.2 innings, .162 OAV, .222 OBP, 0.72 WHIP, and a mind blowing 0.54 ERA. 

Awards; 6 All-Stars and 1 World Series Ring.
