SEASON 42 WORLD SERIES CHAMPIONS
Note: Click players name for profile

Last season the Chicago Cubs (107-55) had the best record in baseball and won the World Championship with a 4 games to 3 win over the Texas Rangers (88-74). The team with the best won/lost record hasn’t won the World Series since season 38 when the Seattle Mariners (115-47) beat the Chicago White Sox (95-67) 4-3. This year we feel that feat will happen once more when the Pittsburgh Pirates (120-42) knockoff the St. Louis Cardinals (96-66) in the season 42 Fall Classic with a 4-0 sweep of the Birds. This is our second year predicting a Pirate World Series win, and if they FALL SHORT again I’m going to have a problem with Pittsburgh owner sportbanker and do what my former fiance’ did to your truly for coming up short, BLOCK HIS NUMBER and place on the DO NOT CALL LIST!

The Pirates will dominate the National League East Division and cruise through the postseason to win their second World Series Title in team history, and first since season 8. This team has made the playoffs 4 consecutive seasons, and had the second best record in the NL last year losing the NLCS to the Cubs 4-2. We all know anything can happen in the playoffs, it is such a crap shoot, but one look at this roster and you’ll see why this team has a shot at breaking the regular season All-Time Win Total of 122 games set in season 32 by the Seattle Mainers. The best player on the team is   Cy Welsh (2B/RF). This season 39 Rookie of the Year has averaged 33 Home Runs 103 RBI and 31 Stolen Bases since his call up. Matty Lopez (2B) is the second best player with a career Batting Average of 309. Zach Wagner (LF) acquired last year midseason in a trade with Atlanta hit 20 Home Runs 59 Stolen Bases, and batted 291. Rookie Jered Thames (SS) played in 143 games last season and hit 25 Home runs 82 RBI and Stole 44 Bases. This team’s rotation is the cornerstone of the squad led by former Cy Young Award winner Don Swann (SP). He had a down season last year but we look for him to rebound and be in the hunt for his second Cy Young. However, our panel of experts calls 25 year-old Burke Blash the best pitcher on the team. Last year we saw this youngster make his first All-Star appearance, and finish the season with an 18-5 record 1.19 WHIP 2.83 ERA. The number 3 starter is Cedrick Glass who was also an 18 game winner last season with a 3.62 ERA. The best relievers are Juan Cruz (MR) and closer Jair Polanco. Last season Cruz appeared in 59 games and posted a 2.68 ERA, and Polanco had 63 appearances closing 41 of 46 games with a 3.69 ERA. What a staff, and what a roster! Polish up McCabe its headed PNC Park!

NATIONAL LEAGUE PENNANT

St. Louis missed the playoffs last year, but giving the hitters and hurlers assembled we here at McCabe Magazine think this will be their year to make a run at the Robert E. McCabe trophy. The Cardinals are loaded with talent, starting with two-time MVP Louie Rosa (1B/DH). The 33-year old can hit righties and lefties with power and has led the team in Home Runs for 13 consecutive seasons. Felipe Garces (1B) was second on the team last season in Home Runs behind Rosa. Garces has finished second on the team in Home Runs behind Rosa the last 5 years. Both players are signed thru season 45. The Ace on the pitching staff is Harry Iglesias (career 108-78, WHIP 1.24, ERA 3.84). The only weak spot on this roster is the bullpen, and if this team doesn’t make it to the ALCS look for major changes next spring.

THE PLAYOFF PICTURE

The Cardinals will beat the Toronto Blue Jays in the ALCS, while the Pirates take the NLCS with a win over the defending World Series Champs Chicago Cubs. Your AL Division winners will be; Blur Jays, New York Yankees, Cardinals, and Anaheim Angeles. In the NL your Division winners will be; Cleveland Indians, Pirates, Richmond Virginians, Seattle Mariners. Wildcard teams; Milwaukee Brewers, Texas Rangers, Chicago Cubs, and Philadelphia Phillies.
