McCABE MAGAZINE SEASON 43 PREVIEW ISSUE

TORONTO BLUE JAYS REPEAT with SWEEP of
SAN DIEGO PADRES
IN SEASON 43 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP

Welcome to the McCabe World

Newport, KY (McC.com) - Welcome to season 43 in the McCabe world of professional baseball. Before we unveil this year’s Preview Issue we would like to welcome back to the baseball community kujhawker new owner of the Washington DC Nationals. kujhawker was previously the owner of the Cincinnati Reds from season 33 until season 40, when he sold the franchise to pursue his lifelong dream of starting a professional spring football league, the Alliance of American Football (AAF). The 8-Team League went under as quickly as it started and 7 of the 8 owners all lost money except for kujhawker who was the Chief Finance Officer responsible for maintaining the financial records and spending for the league. After the league folded kujhawker purchase the Washington Nationals, a move that raise eyebrows by the remaining AAF investors. Nevertheless, he has returned to his first love, professional baseball. kujhawker is an experience owner and we are glad to have him back.

Season 43 Playoff Predictions

The Blue Jays will sweep the Padres in the fall classic after beating the New Yankees 4-1 in the League Championship Series. San Diego will knock off the Cleveland Indians in the NLCS to send them to the World Series for the first time since losing to the Nationals 4-3 in season 29. The AL division winners will be the Blue Jays, Yankees, St. Louis Cardinals, and Los Angeles Dodgers. In the NL the division winners will be the Indians, Pittsburgh Pirates, Richmond Virginians, and the Padres. Our wildcard teams are the Minnesota Twins, Milwaukee Brewers, Chicago Cubs, and the Philadelphia Phillies.

1) Ranked Division America League North

The first division we’re going to look at is the best in baseball, the American League North. This division not only produce the season 42 World Series champion in the Toronto Blue Jays it also sent three teams to the AL playoffs for the second consecutive year. The division winner Blue Jays (114-48) and runner-up Milwaukee Brewers (101-61) both won 100 games in seasons 41 and 42. It is hands down the strongest division in baseball, and by seasons end the battle tested Blue Jays should sweep through the playoffs with an 11-1 playoff record and cruise to its third world championship in team history. The American League North will place three teams to this year’s postseason tournament, the Blue Jays, Minnesota Twins and Brewers.

2) Ranked Division National League East

The top division in the National League is the NL East. The Pittsburgh Pirates have the best roster in baseball from top to bottom. Pirate second basemen Matty Lopez won the season 42 MVP and help lead Pittsburgh to a 101-61 record and the top seed in last year’s playoffs. The next best team is the Philadelphia Phillies. This club has won 91 or more games every season dating back to season 34. The New York Mets and second year owner larryscubs have done a great job of stabilizing the franchise and rebuilding the farm system. However, they’re about 2 years away from competing for the division crown. Rochester Broncos need to get younger on the mound. They have three pitchers with 54 years of combine pro experience and 42 years in the majors, Raul Escalona (R) 20 pro years, 18 ML, Anthony Wehner (R) 18 pro years, 14 ML and Rollie George (R) 16 pro 10 Ml.

Noteworthy: The Phillies have made the playoffs every year since season 34, winning the pennant three (3) times and the World Series in season 39.

3) Ranked Division National League North

The Cleveland Indians and the Chicago Cubs are the two finest teams in this division. In season 42 Cleveland led the National League in pitching and tied Milwaukee for the major league lead with a team ERA of 3.42. The Cubs led all NL teams in Home Runs with 292, which is 67 more than the second place Colorado Rockies (223 HR). The Blue Jays led the majors with 303 dingers. According to our metrics the Indians has the best starting lineup and pitching staff in the division. The Cubs have the second best starting lineup and best pitching rotation however; we rank the Cubs bullpen as the worst in the National League. We rank the Detroit Tigers rotation as the second best in the NL that should help them reach our win total of 89.

4) Ranked Division National League West

We have selected the San Diego Padres as our choice to win the season 43 National League Pennant. The top five players on this roster have a total of 4 years of major league experience.

Trust the Development (Process)

Jake Valle (3B) the number1 overall pick in the season 39 amateur draft.
Andrew O'Leary (2B) was the number 2 overall pick in the season 41 amateur draft.
Vic Posey (P) was the number 2 overall pick in the season 38 amateur draft.
Darrin Bailey (3B) was the number 5 overall pick in the season 38 amateur draft.
Timo Massey (P) was the number 6 overall pick in the season 40 amateur draft.

This group of young players along with veteran Corban Grimsley (P) will dominate the NL West much like the Seattle Mariners dominated the decade of the 30s. Seattle failed to make the postseason last season for the first time since season 30. The problem with Seattle is the top six (6) players on the Mariners roster eat up more than 51.3 % of the total player budget of $81.6 M. Trace Garvin (3B) $9.8M, Andres Alvarez (2B) $7M, Victor Diaz (P) $7.5M, Marvin Hooper (P) $5.1M, John Ma (1B) $5.2M and Petey Glenn (RF) $7.3M. This imbalance has created a divided locked room and the reason this club will struggle to reach 83 wins.

Noteworthy: Colorado Rookies hasn’t finished in 4th place in the division since season 18. That’s the longest run in the West. The next closest is Arizona who last finished in that position in season 34.

5) Ranked Division American League East

The top two teams in this division are the New York Yankees and Boston Red. We got the Bronx Bombers taking the title by 7 games. The Yankees haven’t won the division since season 13 however; our analytics say this is their year to make a run at the pennant. Key players to watch Ramon Pan (2B), Gerald Rossy (RF), and Ben McCartin (1B).

The St. Louis Cardinals have the best pitching rotation in the division led by Ace Harry Iglesias (SP1), Albert Oliva (SP2), Louie Albaladejo (SP3), Robel Serafini (SP4), and Victor Kydd (SP5). Designated Hitter Louie Rosa is the best player on this squab with Felipe Garces (1B) a very close second. Other players to watch are Texas Ranger’s Rico Crespo (OF), Odrisamer Franco (CF), pitcher Anthony Groom, Houston Astros Gerson Wakefield (SP1), and Kansas City’s Daniel Florie (3B).

7) Ranked Division American League West

This is our most surprising prediction of season 43. Our choice to win the AL West is the Los Angeles Dodgers. According to Caesar’s Palace sports book they have installed the Anaheim Angels as the team to beat and, FoxBet has the Oakland Athletics as their preseason favorite. Our analytics say they’re both wrong and the Los Angeles Dodgers is our best bet of the season. The Dodgers haven’t won the division since season 28, which in fact was the last time they won 90 games. Here are the key Dodgers that will  lead this struggling organization to the season 43 division championship; Matt Finley (3B), Sal Belt (RF) and Germany Taylor (RF).
