St. Louis, MO (McC.com) – The defending American League South division champs St. Louis Cardinals saw their chances of capturing their third consecutive division crown diminish when 5 time CY Young award winner Adam Bradford (10-7, 1.09 Whip, 2.68 ERA), went down for the season with a shoulder injury that shocked the fans here in east Missouri. The future first ballot Hall of Famer told McCabe Magazines he felt some discomfort in the shoulder after throwing his 77th pitch, which struck out Washington Nationals Darrel Davies in the bottom of the 6th inning. The Cardinals was leading 1-0 when Bradford left the game (5.1 innings, 0 runs, 0 ER, 2 BB, and 6 S0). After his departure the Nationals would score 1 run later in the inning, and 2 in the 8th to complete the comeback win 3-2. This is Bradford’s first injury of any kind and it may be career ending according to Las Vegas Orthopedic Surgeon Billy “the knife” Johnson. “He’s done,.. At 35 years of age it’s over,.. You’re looking at 12 months of rehab, he’ll be 36 and there’s no telling what they’ll find in there during the surgery,.. If he comes back it will be for that $9 M due him in season 36.” We spoke to several orthopedic surgeons who did not want to be identified also told McCabe this is a career ending injury.

We caught up with Bradford on his 200 acre ranch about 30 miles southwest of his hometown Fairview, Montana 10 days after his surgery which was performed in St. Louis at Kindred Hospital by team physician Dr. C. Me Armbuster. “I feel great” the 13 year major league veteran told us as he offered us a glass of his homemade microbrew. He goes on to tell us about his hobby making microbrews and his rehab program. “I have some exercises I can do here at home between flights back to St. Louis for rehab.” When we told him many of the experts are predicting this is a career ending injury, he sat his half full mud down on the table, looked at me and my crew and said “I will be back! I will win 20 games next year, and tell the pitcher that wins this year’s CY Young it’s a LOAN, it’s not yours to keep, and that hardware belongs to me, Adam Bradford I guarantee it, TAKE THAT FOR DATA.”

As we tried without success not to double over in laughter at his theatrics, we all fell to the ground in uncontrollable hysteria when Bradford cracked a smile and said “My agent wrote that last night when we learned of your visit."

The Cardinals placed Bradford on the Disable List and promoted AAA Setup Reliever Guilder Mota.
