The Chicago White Sox placed season 38 Rookie of the Year Rougned Schoop (LF) on the 15-Day disable list with a bulging disk in his neck. Last season Schoop hit 49 HR and 134 RBI. This season he has 26 HR and 80 RBI however, he was in a major HR lump before being placed on the DL. Hitting just 4 round-trippers in his last 91 at bats.

Oakland Athletics decline the Rule 5 Return of SS Paul Ball from the Milwaukee Brewers and later the Cincinnati Reds. Ball was designated for assignment on 4/27/19 and claimed off waivers by the Brewers. Ball an IFA signee in season 32 appeared in 53 games with 41 AB 1 HR 8 RBI and a 268 Batting Average for Milwaukee and offered back to Oakland and subsequently waved. The Reds claimed Ball on 6/10/19 and also offered him back to Oakland. As of 6/11/19 Ball is still on the Reds roster and waiting for an assignment.

Anaheim Angels activated Angelys Guez (P) from DL. He has pitched in 17 games with 16 starts posting a 4-5 record 1.25 Whip 4.15 ERA. This 30 year-old has a long history of major injuries. He has been on the 60-day DL three (3) times and one (1) 15-day stint. During his career he has had 2 elbow surgeries and 1 shoulder surgery.  The Angels placed him on the DL due to elbow inflammation.

The San Francisco Giants waived Harry Almonte (P) 13 games 0-0 record 2.08 Whip and a 9.00 ERA. Arizona Diamondbacks claimed Almonte and assigned him to the Reno Aces (AAA) of the Pacific League.

Cleveland Indians promoted former Big Leaguer Cy Britton (P) to the big club after starting the season in AAA. To his surprise he didn’t make the major league roster out of spring training and was assigned to Columbus the AAA affiliate. In 18 starts for the Clippers Britton posted a 11-1 record 1.17 Whip 2.87 ERA.

6/8/2019

After signing International Free-Agent Ezdra Costilla and giving him a $40,000 bonus the Rochester Broncos released the 18 year-old without playing a single game. The details surrounding the release is still a mystery however, a source close to the situation told Deadspin.com Costilla was released because he refused to wear pants during batting practice and to team meals at the rookie training facility. The actual release happen following a Meet-and Greet with the fans when he removed his pants and under garments while explaining his theory on how to throw a split-finger fastball to a group of senior citizens from the Phoenix Senior Center.

Colorado Rockies released the following Rookie League pitchers Benny Robinson  (19) Yeico Manzanillo (19) Giancarlo Molina (19) Mason Martin (19) and Deacon Coste (18) following their arrest on charges of trying to pass fake $5 bills at a Jupiter, Florida massage parole in which was being investigated by the Feds for video taping NFL owners without their knowledge or permission.

Since joining the Bronx Bombers Mejia has started 18 games with a 7-7 record 1.41 Whip 3.82 ERA. He spent his first 5-years in the Cleveland Indians minor league farm system before finally getting his opportunity to pitcher in the Major Leagues with New York. McCartin was the number 11 overall pick by Cleveland in the season 39 draft. He has been rushed through both organizations and is struggling as a result. Last year he played 2 games in Rookie ball, and was promoted to advance A ball (High A) and played 54 games. This season he started in AA where he played 72 games before being traded to the Yankees. The Yankees promoted him to AAA where he has posted a .241 BA.  The Indianas assigned Naoto Chang to their AA affiliate.

San Diego Padres promoted 23 year-olds Stretch O'Malley (LF) and Alvin Blake (P) to the big club on 6/7/19. Both players are showing the fans the future is bright in San Diego. White Sox signed FA hold-out Jerrod Perez (3B) 33 to a prorated league minimum contract on 6/6/19. After spending 13 seasons with the White Sox he left via Free-Agency at the end of S39. According to kgrffth owner and director of baseball operations, Perez asking price was in “never, never land.” So they let him walk. With a quarter of the season gone he and his people came back to the bargaining table to make a deal and we put our foot on his throat, made him say in the Pedro Martinez voice “who’s yo DADDY”, and got the deal we wanted $391,000.

Colorado Rockies activated Walt Parker (P) 25 from 60-Day DL. Parker complained about shoulder soreness in the 9th inning of a 7-4 lost against Richmond. After getting the first two batters to ground out he proceeded to walk the next batter followed by a HBP. He motioned to the dugout and was later placed on the disable list with a sore rotator cuff. The Braves gave Ramirez a 1-year contract extension through season 41 worth $3.5 M.

The Giants placed injury plague pitcher Dann Jackson 31 on the 15-Day DL with shoulder inflammation. In season 35 Jackson was placed on the 60-Day DL with a ligament tear in his shoulder, and in season 37 knee surgery landed him on the 60-Day DL. To fill his spot on the roster San Francisco called-up season 37 first round pick (6 overall) Rashun Blair (P). Minor league career numbers 133 games 34 starts 6-17 record 27 saves 35 SVO 1.15 Whip 3.33 ERA. Another rush job, great potential and should be pitching at the AA level at best.
