THE TEAMS OF THE DECADE

THE DECADE OF THE 30s
THE DECADE OF DOMINATION
THE SEATTLE MARINERS McCABE MAGAZINE'S TEAM OF THE DECADE

Daytona Beach, FLA (McC.com) - McCabe Magazines team of the decade is the Seattle Mariners. This team dominated the decade like the San Diego Padres dominated the decade of the 20s. Seattle won 1087 games, 4 National League Pennants, 9 NL West division titles, and 4 Robert E McCabe World Series trophies. Each of the noted team stats is the best in the major leagues during that decade except for division titles. Seattle and the Washington Nationals both finished the decade with 9 titles, the Mariners winning 9 straight, and Washington winning 8. The Nationals consecutive division title streak was broken in season 38 by the Boston Red Sox when they captured title with an 85-77 record.

Seattle has won the National League West division every year since season 31, and has finished the year with the best record in baseball seven (7) times. In season 32 this club set the single season record in wins with 122, and followed that up with a win total of 121 in season 33. Some of the old-timers in our news room claim they haven’t seen a team better than the season 20 San Diego Padres (116-46) which won the World Series and was later named “The Greatest Team of All-Time” in a season 29 issue of McCabe Magazine.  In our decade of the 20s issue The Padres was also named our “Team of the Decade.” However, with all due respect to my fellow colleagues Peter Gammons and Bob Costas, in my opinion regarding Greatest Team of All Time, there’s no question the Seattle Mariners dynasty are in the conversation, with the 32 Mariners bumping the Padres off the Iron Throne and staking claim to the title as “The Greatest Team of All Time” with the 20 Padres falling to 2nd on my list. Peter said “fine that’s your opinion” but Bob who is still bitter about being removed from the NBC Sunday Night NFL broadcast became incensed! He called me stupid, dumb, and he was sick and tired of being my imaginary friend. After speaking with management Bob was let go and replaced with Buster Olney who helped me with the research for this article. Thanks Buster!

What a decade for the Mariners, now what’s ahead for the league, who will be our next team of the decade? The 40s have begun,.. Enjoy!

Listed below you will find our team stats for the decade.
